What it's known for

Baltimore is the most populous city in Maryland and grew as a major seaport: its Inner Harbor was once the second-leading port of entry for immigrants to the US, after New York's Ellis Island. It is also known for Johns Hopkins University and Hospital.

Find Chesapeake Bay, the long inlet on the US east coast: Baltimore is on the upper part of its western side, about 60 km north-east of Washington, D.C.

Baltimore is Maryland's biggest city, but the state capital is Annapolis, about 40 km to the south on Chesapeake Bay.
